NEW YORK–John Staffen, one of three group creative directors at DDB here, has been promoted to the top creative job.

Staffen becomes executive creative director at the New York shop, filling a role that has been vacant for more than a year since co-executive creative directors David Nathanson and Steve Landsberg left in the summer of 2000.

Bob Kuperman, in an internal memo announcing the move and quoting DDB founder Bill Bernbach, said ?To work at DDB, first, you have to have to have talent, and second, you have to be a nice human being.
