Staffen Wins Top Creative Post at DDB

NEW YORK–John Staffen, one of three group creative directors at DDB here, has been promoted to the top creative job.

Staffen becomes executive creative director at the New York shop, filling a role that has been vacant for more than a year since co-executive creative directors David Nathanson and Steve Landsberg left in the summer of 2000.

Bob Kuperman, in an internal memo announcing the move and quoting DDB founder Bill Bernbach, said ?To work at DDB, first, you have to have to have talent, and second, you have to be a nice human being. If you don’t possess both, you don’t belong at DDB. I can’t think of a better example of someone who has those qualities than John Staffen.”

Staffen, 39, who was instrumental in helping DDB win back the New York State Lottery account this year, continues to report to Kuperman and president John Berg.
