SSC Pursues, Acquires Pat O’s Creative

ATLANTA Pat O’Brien’s has hired Sullivan-St. Clair to produce advertising for the popular New Orleans bar, the shop said.

The independent Mobile, Ala., shop won the account without a review. There was no incumbent. Previously, Pat O’Brien’s produced its advertising internally.

“I’ve been watching the agency and following their work for about a year now,” said Shelly Waguespack, marketing director for Pat O’Brien’s. “Sullivan-St. Clair is doing some very cool work.”

Rich Sullivan, president of the shop, said he had been pursuing the account for several months and produced some speculative creative work for the bar that resulted in the new account.

“Pat O’s is arguably the most famous bar in the world and the quintessential New Orleans bar,” Sullivan said. “Our task is to build upon that 72 years of tradition and phenomenal success while introducing Pat O’Brien’s to a new generation.”

The work will include print ads that launch this week in travel and convention publications, outdoor messages in the New Orleans area and Internet advertising. The ads will target tourists, conventioneers and locals.

The bar will continue to handle its own media planning and buying.

Pat O’Brien’s has two locations in New Orleans, in addition to single outposts in Orlando, Fla., Memphis, Tenn., San Antonio and Cancun, Mexico.

Spending on the campaign was not disclosed.
