Splendid LEGACY

Phillips Design Group has launched a fundraising Web site and promotional materials for The Jimmy Fund, a division of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.

The shop’s pro bono work supports an effort to raise more than $1 million for cancer research through the sale of a limited-edition photograph of baseball legend Ted Williams. Created by celebrity photographer Philip Porcella, the moody black-and-white photo of Williams was taken at Fenway Park in 1991 and shows the former Boston Red Sox slugger standing in the bleachers, 502 feet away from home plate—precisely where his home run, the longest in Fenway’s history, landed on June 9, 1946.

“We were looking for a chance to give back to our community,” said Steve Phillips, president of the Boston shop. “Ted Williams has always been one of my all-time heroes, and we’re happy to be part of extending his legacy.”

Only 999 signed and numbered prints, plus 99 artist’s proofs, will be created and sold.

Along with the site, www.williamshome run.com, Phillips Design has also crafted promotional postcards to be handed out at Fenway. Longtime Jimmy Fund supporter Williams, nicknamed “The Splendid Splinter,” died July 5 at age 83.
