Tom Burrell began his advertising career in 1961 at Wade Advertising, working in its mail room.
Wade Advertising is long gone, but Burrell has shown he has a knack for the ad game. Next month, the founder and chairman of Chicago-based Burrell Communications will be the third recipient of the American Advertising Federation’s Silver Medal Award for lifetime achievement from the Chicago Advertising Club.
From Wade’s mail room, Burrell moved to copywriting positions at Leo Burnett in Chicago, Foote, Cone & Belding in London and Needham Harper & Steers (now DDB Needham Chicago), before opening his own shop in 1971.
