SMZ to Manage Detroit Tigers’ Marketing

CHICAGO The Detroit Tigers have named SMZ their lead advertising agency after a review, according to the independent shop.

“I’ve always been a huge Tigers fan. Growing up I wanted to be a professional baseball player. This is as close as I’m going to get,” said SMZ president Jim Michelson in a statement. “The Tigers are a great organization and we know it’s going to be a fun and exciting account.”

The Troy, Mich., agency will handle a host of marketing communications for the American League team, including television, radio and print advertising, media planning and placement, public relations and promotional events.

Billings were not disclosed. The Tigers spent nearly $2 million on advertising through October 2004, according to Nielsen Monitor-Plus.
