Smith Extends Waterfront Watch

Two happy clients have brought more business and new opportunity to Smith Advertising & Associates.
The Fayetteville, N.C., agency successfully defended the $900,000 account of the North Carolina State Ports Authority (NCSPA) and will open a satellite office in Sarasota, Fla., at the request of Sarasota County tourism. Both longtime clients originally hired Smith in 1989.
The successful defense of the NCSPA is the shop’s third since its original win, said agency principal Gary Smith. An initial list of seven contenders was cut to three in-state finalists: Smith, Fyoch & Associates in Winston-Salem and AdPR of Wilmington.
“Every time we’ve done this, [Smith] comes up with a little thing that makes them a little different, a little better,” said Ivan Reiner, NCSPA purchasing officer. “They do better research, their packages have a little more originality. The others, they don’t put forth quite as much effort.”
The three-year contract calls for Smith to continue providing the NCSPA with integrated communications and marketing services.
Smith said the focus in the coming year is to increase awareness of the value the authority brings to the state’s businesses and citizens in a broadcast, outdoor, print and Internet campaign.
Todd Smith, the principal’s son, will head the Sarasota site, splitting time between the two offices. K
