SMG Promotes Brien

CHICAGO–Starcom MediaVest Group on Thursday will name Nick Brien president of U.S. corporate business development, an upper level appointment that had been expected (Adweek, Dec. 11).

Brien will take on many of the duties previously handled by SMG chief operating officer Bob Brennan, who will become president of Leo Burnett Worldwide on Jan. 1, 2001. The COO title will not be filled.

Brien, who was chief executive officer of Leo Burnett in London, will oversee SMG’s various operating units, primarily Starcom and MediaVest. He will be responsible for raising the profile of those units and making possible acquisitions, officials said. Brien will report to Jack Klues, SMG’s CEO.
