“Let’s see you do your job on ice” is the challenge presented in Southwest Airlines’ new television commercials promoting its sponsorship of the National Hockey League.

In one spot created by Omnicom’s GSD&M in Austin, Texas, meals, trays and cups fly through the air as fast-food workers slip on the floor of ice behind the counter.

In another ad, a family sits for a photographic portrait as the cameraman slides on an equally slippery surface, bringing down the backdrop and every other prop in the room as he clicks away.

The spots close witha frame of Southwest’s logo and its designation as the official airline of the NHL.

The work breaks Wednesday on ESPN and ESPN2, and will appear on ABC during the 2003 NHL playoffs.
