Slingshot Proves Self

Slingshot has been awarded the advertising account of Interphase Corp.

The Dallas agency won the business following a review that included local shops The Point Group and The Richards Group. Billings are undisclosed.

Interphase has been handling its advertising in-house, but launched the review after deciding to cut costs by outsourcing, according to client product manager Suzanne White. The Plano, Texas-based company manufactures computer network technologies.

White said she had worked with Slingshot before, while at Verizon SuperPages, and was impressed with the shop’s integration. “Many agencies say they’re integrated across multiple platforms, and Slingshot is the only one that has been able to prove themselves,” she said.

Agencies were asked to include their ad, public relations and interactive teams in the pitches, White said.

Slingshot account supervisor David Young said Interphase’s business brings “a tremendous marketing opportunity for us in a category that we think will come back soon.”

Interphase has relied on e-newsletters, trade publications and buyers’ guides as advertising media. Its next campaign, in early 2003, will use more direct marketing and less print, White said.

New work will build on the results of a research project Slingshot completed following the win. The client charged Slingshot with assessing how the market viewed the 25-year-old company. White said the agency will help Interphase leverage its perception and enhance it with stronger messages.
