Stocks finished the week lower as information about the effect of hurricanes Katrina and Rita on the nation’s economy became clearer. Though better than expected, unemployment grew for the first time in two years. The Labor Department on Friday revealed the economy lost 35,000 jobs in September, bringing the monthly unemployment rate to 5.1percent from 4.9 percent in August. The Dow still finished the week down nearly 280 points (2.6 percent), closing at 10,292.31. The Nasdaq also finished lower, closing at 2,090.35,
