Siltanen Names President

LOS ANGELES Siltanen & Partners said it has hired Tim Murphy as president.

Murphy, who also becomes an agency partner, was a group account director on the Toyota account at Publicis Groupe’s Saatchi & Saatchi.

He starts today at the independent Marina del Rey, Calif., shop, taking over the position held by Rob Siltanen since Pam Keehn left the agency three years ago.

The shop is currently pitching the Southern California Honda dealers assignment against five other agencies [Adweek Online, Aug. 4].

“I prefer sinking my teeth into the creative part of the business,” said Siltanen. “Tim will be able to focus on new business and client service as well as the leadership role.” Siltanen said he would remain the chairman and creative director. “I’ve been wanting to get Tim here for a long time now, impressed with his automotive credentials. I’ve been trying to get the agency an automotive account.”

“Rob and I have oil in our veins,” said Murphy, who at Saatchi headed up the Toyota car, truck and SUV groups and oversaw motorsports, tactical, interactive, design and collateral, as well as a portion of the Toyota Dealers Association.

“There is a lot of potential for small or midsize agencies,” said Murphy of Siltanen’s 14-person size. “I’ve enjoyed working at large ones where we’ve done fruitful, good work. But there is an upside potential with small agencies. I’m totally motivated to work with Rob and [creative director] Joe [Hemp].”

At Saatchi, Murphy was director of account management for national advertising and led the retail team for several years. Before that, he worked at Publicis Groupe’s Team One on the Lexus Dealer Association account.
