SicolaMartin CEO Hands Mantle to Next Generation

SicolaMartin has completed a handoff to the next generation of leaders with its last remaining founder, Steve Martin, shedding his CEO role and becoming non-executive chairman.

Martin’s step back leaves the business-to-business shop in the hands of president Cherie Cox and executive creative director Diane McKinnon. The agency won’t fill the CEO role, which Martin, 58, had held since the exit of Tom Sicola in December 2008.

Martin described Cox as prepared, proven and gifted, adding, “She’s going to be fantastic.”

Cox, 39, has been president since late 2008. Before that, she was managing partner. She joined the agency in 1991.

As non-executive chairman, Martin will serve as a senior advisor who will work on special projects as needed, according to the agency.

The Austin, Texas-based shop is a unit of WPP Group’s Young & Rubicam Brands. Its clients include Dell, AMD, Sybase, McLane and SAP. Y&R acquired the agency in 2001.
