S.F. Indies Compete for Siebel’s Creative

LOS ANGELES Siebel Systems has narrowed its search for an agency to handle the creative portion of its $20 million account, sources said.

Agencies that remain in contention for the business are independents Gardner Geary Coll and Venables, Bell & Partners, both in San Francisco, according to sources. Omnicom’s DDB and independent Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners, also both in San Francisco, had been semifinalists for the business but did not advance, sources said. Agency officials either declined comment or could not be reached.

The San Mateo, Calif.-based client, which makes customer relationship management applications software, has worked with Publicis Groupe’s Publicis & Hal Riney in San Francisco for two years. The agency did not participate in the review. Media, which is handled by Aegis Group’s Carat in San Francisco, is not included in the review.

Finalists are expected to present creative to company founder Tom Siebel within the next few weeks, sources said. The client declined to comment.
