Sell, Or Cease To Exist

Young & Laramore is preparing to put a full-court press on Hoosier basketball fans.
The Indianapolis shop has been hired by The Indiana Pacer Corp. to build fan support for the city’s newly announced Women’s National Basketball Association team.
Y&L is working feverishly to put together a campaign to launch in early July.
There’s quite a bit riding on the work: The very existence of a team in Indiana depends on advance ticket sales. Indianapolis will only keep the team if 5,500 season tickets are sold by Oct. 15. Without evidence of local support, the NBA (all WNBA teams are owned by the men’s league) will revoke the franchise.
The goal is to develop a sense of urgency without conveying desperation, said Y&L vice president Tom Denari.
“What we want to do is create almost a cultlike attraction to another basketball team in Indiana,” he said.
The creative possibilities are wide open, as the campaign will have to revolve solely around the mere idea of a team. Until the expansion is official, there will be no team name, colors, logo, coach or players to work with. – Jenn Goddu
