SBI Elevates Brown to Executive Management Level

NEW YORK SBI and Company has promoted Darin Brown to executive vice president of marketing solutions, creative and user experience.

In the newly created post, Brown, 35, will work to integrate SBI disciplines such as Web site development, e-mail and viral marketing, packaging, collateral and traditional advertising for clients such as Samsung, Adidas and His job is analogous to that of a chief creative officer at a general ad agency, according to an SBI representative.

“As the company grew to 1,000 employees, there was a need for someone to step up to maintain consistency of delivery around the company,” the representative said.

Most recently, he led the consumer business unit in the West Coast region of SBI, where he was in charge of activities for the company’s consumer packaged-goods and retail clients, including Microsoft, Northwest Airlines and Mattel.

He will report to SBI president and CEO Ned Stringham and will continue to be based in Portland, Ore. As a member of the seven-person executive management team, he will work to set the direction of the Salt Lake City e-business roll-up, which has grown by snapping up troubled Internet companies, like Razorfish and Scient.

He joined the company in April 2001, when SBI bought some of the assets of his former employer, marchFirst. Before that, he was at marchFirst predecessor USWeb/CKS in various management roles since January 1998. He began his career in client services in 1990 at Leo Burnett, where he formed the interactive group in 1995.
