Saatchi Hires Nobay as ECD in Sydney

NEW YORK Bozell executive creative director David Nobay has accepted the top creative post at Saatchi & Saatchi in Sydney, Australia, the Publicis Groupe network said Thursday.

He will fill the executive creative director spot being vacated by Malcolm Poynton, who is leaving after nearly two years to take an undisclosed job in London.

Nobay, 35, resigned from Bozell last month [Adweek Online, Feb. 21]. The Interpublic Group shop is in the midst of merging with sibling Lowe.

The move represents a return to Australia for Nobay, who founded Wells Nobay McDowell in Melbourne in 1996.

“From nothing, his agency grew to be one of the hottest creative shops in Australia—we should have hired him then,” said Saatchi global creative director Bob Isherwood in a statement.

Nobay, who joined Bozell as a group creative director three years ago, worked on Verizon Wireless, “Got milk?” and Datek, among other accounts. Last November, he was promoted to deputy executive creative director, and earlier this year, he took over for managing partner, ecd Tony Granger, who left to become ecd at Saatchi in London.

During his 15-year career, he has held various creative posts at Ball Partnership in Hong Kong, Cohn & Wells in San Francisco and London shops O&M Direct, Evans Hunt Scott and Anthem Advertising.
