When Leonard/ Monahan chief Bruce Leonard summoned his troops to listen to a guest speaker named Naidni Touqep, they showed up en masse.

The speaker didn’t, however. Instead, a bus whisked surprised employees off to Foxwoods casino in Ledyard, Conn., for an afternoon of gambling.

Turns out, Naidni Touqep is ‘Pequot Indian’ spelled backwards. Even when agency staffers were forewarned to keep the afternoon open, no one figured out the ruse until Leonard began distributing rolls of quarters with instructions to take a break and a thank-you note attached.

While assistant media planner Jeff O’Sullivan raked in about $140, Leonard kept his wins and losses to himself.

‘So now we’re all paranoid that the agency is mortgaged (to the casino),’ joked agency representative Lynn Walters.
