Riccio Takes Omnicom Post

While Janet Riccio professes a passion for travel, her former job as DDB’s international account director for McDonald’s proved too much of a good thing.

After five years in a post that took her to every continent except Antarctica, Riccio, 46, is staying closer to home in her new role as Omnicom Group’s evp, chief integration officer on the $1.3 billion global account.

“It’s great to be land-bound,” said Riccio, who will work out of McDonald’s Oak Brook, Ill., headquarters in the new post. “I was on the road 65 percent of the time.”

Riccio said she will serve as an Omnicom “yellow pages” for McDonald’s, matching up client needs with holding-company resources. She reports to Omnicom CEO John Wren.

Fourteen Omnicom companies work on McDonald’s, including advertising networks DDB and TBWA and media shop OMD. Riccio said she is looking for opportunities to expand that business. “This is Omnicom’s attempt to garner more share of McDonald’s [marketing] spending,” she said.

A Bridgeport, Conn., native, Riccio has been connected to McDonald’s for the past 13 years. Prior to her five years at DDB in Chicago, she was a group account director at Arnold in Boston, working on the shop’s regional co-op accounts. “I just fell in love with this client and this brand,” she said.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration from Boston University, Riccio (whose brother Paul is a commercial director) took a job as an assistant traffic manager at a small agency in Connecticut. Following that, she worked at Rosenfeld, Sirowitz & Lawson and Laurence, Charles, Free & Lawson, both in New York.

Along with travel, Riccio enjoys the theater, books and yoga.
