R.I. Shop Launches Campaign To Boost Tourism on Cape Cod

BOSTON-The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce has unveiled its first campaign from Fleming & Roskelly in Newport, R.I.
The ads mimic the campaign for the Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism by Houston Herstek Favat in Boston. The chamber had to use the same theme, “We’d love to show you around,” to get state funds, said agency president Paul Fleming.
Four-color ads will appear in fall issues of National Geographic Traveler and Travel America. A larger execution highlighting autumn events will be inserted into Boston Magazine and Travel & Leisure. Billboards and radio spots will break in September.
The campaign will run for about two months, Fleming said.
When the shop won the account this spring, some in the industry complained that a conflict of interest existed because the agency also handles the Newport County Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Both chamber and Newport County officials, however, have said no direct conflict exists.
“We figured, if they could [improve tourism] for Newport, they could do it for us,” said chamber official Wendy Northcross.
The chamber expects to receive $500,000 for tourism promotion this year, said chamber official Wendy Northcross. About $375,000 will be used on the ad campaign, she said.
