With the collapse of negotiations last week for a new film and TV contract, the possibility of a May strike by the Writers Guild of America looks stronger than ever. But broadcasters’ chances of withstanding a work stoppage also look strong.

Prior to the collapse of the negotiations, the WGA had struck a deal with the writers of ABC’s Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, allowing them to continue to produce new episodes should a strike occur.
