Hoteliers, colleges and tourism industry professionals are all trying to reach the estimated 200,000 out-of-state students and parents who travel to visit Boston colleges every year.

So says Todd Hoffman, publisher of Campus Visit Magazine, an annual 40-page full-color guide for prospective students and their folks.

‘We’re selling Boston as the greatest place in the world to go to school,’ Hoffman said.

The magazine is mailed directly to visiting students free of charge by several participating universities, including Bentley College, the Berkeley College of Music, Boston University and Harvard.

Now in its second year, the magazine charges $6,000 for a full-page color ad. The most recent issue, published in March, was 45 percent ads, with sponsors such as the Back Bay Hilton, Boston Park Plaza Hotel and the Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism buying space, Hoffman said. Guaranteed circulation is 125,000.
