Rapp Collins Fills Top Creative Slot

BOSTON Omnicom Group’s Rapp Collins said it has hired Jim McKinnis as chief creative officer.

McKinnis, 42, who starts today, succeeds Martin Macdonald, who left the agency several weeks ago to “pursue other options,” a Rapp representative said.

He will split his time among Rapp Collins’ offices in Dallas, New York and Los Angeles. McKinnis will oversee all North American creative functions at the agency. He will guide the shop’s 80-person creative staff and lead development of online and offline client marketing programs.

“Jim McKinnis’ leadership skills have always inspired his creative teams to greater heights,” said Bob Horvath, president of direct marketing at Rapp Collins, in a statement. “His understanding of results-driven marketing and experience in translating a great idea across a mix of integrated channels make him an excellent fit.”

Key Rapp Collins clients include DirecTV, Mercedes-Benz and Hyatt Hotels.

McKinnis had been chief creative at Omnicom’s TracyLocke in Dallas since 1998. He was promoted to that position six months ago [Adweek, July 22].

TracyLocke president Bob Chimbel, who had previously served as chief creative, will take over those responsibilities from McKinnis, the agency said. TracyLocke has also promoted Regan Holley, Erik Nelson, Tom Freyer to executive creative directors.
