General Motors has selected four finalists in its review for the $20 million Hummer account. They include incumbent Pyro Brand Development, which is teamed with The Richards Group, both in Dallas; McCann-Erickson, Troy, Mich.; The Martin Agency, Richmond, Va.; and Modernista!, Boston.

General Motors last year acquired marketing rights to Hummer, which is made by AM General in South Bend, Ind. The civilian version of the military’s wide-bodied utility vehicle went into consumer distribution following the Persian Gulf conflict.

The increased marketing budget for brand, which spent less than$1 million last year, reflects the planned launch of an updated version, the Hummer H2, in 2002.
