Publicis’ Revenue Grows 4% In Q1

Publicis Groupe reported its first-quarter revenue was up 4 percent to approximately $1.14 billion, compared to the same period a year ago. The Paris-based holding company also said it registered $1.5 billion in net new business during the quarter. Key first quarter U.S. wins for its agencies included Bally Total Fitness, EarthLink, Simmons, EchoStar and JPMorgan Chase.

SBC’s Regulatory Request Denied

WASHINGTON Federal regulators last Thursday rejected SBC’s request to exempt new services including high-speed video from traditional telephone regulations. On a 4-to-0 vote, the FCC decided it could not grant SBC’s request “because it asks us to forbear from requirements that may not even apply.” FCC chairman Kevin Martin held the door open to future regulatory relief.

McCann Revamps S.F. Operations

SAN FRANCISCO IPG’s McCann Erickson here has reorganized to better position the outpost as the agency’s lead resource on the Microsoft account. This marks the first major initiative by Matt Ross, president of McCann Worldgroup in San Francisco and global Microsoft account leader, since he joined in February. Courtney Buechert, evp and gm of McCann here, will expand his current role to become global brand director on Microsoft’s Xbox account (worth about $25 million in the U.S.). McCann in San Francisco has held the Microsoft business for a decade.
