P+S Gains Bulk of EMC Account

BOSTON EMC and Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos have parted, and the information storage company is now expected to work with roster shop Partners + Simons as its primary agency partner, sources said.

Interpublic Group’s Hill, Holliday here had been EMC’s lead shop for more than three years. The company has also worked with Boston-based P+S on various marketing assignments.

Reached late Friday, a Hill, Holliday representative declined comment and Tom Simons, president and cd at P+S, would provide no information.

An EMC rep said no agency switch has been made, but did not offer further details.

The Hopkinton, Mass., client spent about $12 million last year in measured media, down from $15 million in 2005 and $17 million in 2004, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus.

That drop-off in spending, coupled with recent big wins at Hill, Holliday (such as AOL and Novartis’ Diovan), made it more practical for EMC to work with a smaller agency, sources said.

P+S is part of W2, a coalition of marketing services companies specializing mainly in high-tech accounts. Other key P+S clients are Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Genzyme and Sovereign Bank.
