THE PROBLEMS OF SUCCESS

There is a string attached to Aamco Transmissions’ $15-20 million creative account, which is currently up for grabs.

All ad proposals must include pitchman James Brolin (shown here), paramour of Barbra Streisand and the man familiar from such nostalgia TV jewels as Marcus Welby, M.D. and Hotel.

The Bala Cynwyd, Pa.-based client’s request for proposal asks specifically for ‘ongoing creative campaigns using long-term contracted spokesperson’ Brolin.

One source said the inclusion of Brolin causes him no worry: ‘If you’ve got the right spokesperson and equity you don’t change that.’ But another said he would most likely not pitch the account because of the creative restraints imposed by the client.

The actor has been hawking the company’s services for the last several years in long-running spots from the defunct Ally & Gargano, New York.

Sources said Brolin, bearded in the spots from 1995, would continue to shill for the company.
