PPG Paints New Agency List; Two Shops Cut in the Process

PITTSBURGH – Young & Rubicam and Messner Vetere Berger McNamee Schmetterer were the big losers in PPG Industries’ agency realignm…According to the company, Mintz & Hoke, Avon, Conn., won the $7-million Olympic stains and water sealant program this year, replacing several offices of Y&R. The agency’s San Francisco office had been listed as the office handling the business, but the company claimed it was handled by a number of different Y&R offices.Wyse Advertising/Cleveland won the $4-million Pittsburgh Paints business, replacing project assignments at Marc Advertising here and media assignments on the brand from Y&R. Marc Advertising won the $5-million Lucite paints program which had been at the Pittsburgh office of Messner Vetere Berger McNamee Schmetterer.PPG director of marketing Mike Provenzano said the company wanted to ‘intentionally consolidate into integrated communications at the agencies. We were looking at a way to really make it simpler, to get a fuller range of services from the agencies we’re using.’ He added that the company is planning a bigger TV push for all its brands.Copyright Adweek L.P.
