Powers Drops Sive After a Year

Powers/Sive has changed its name to the Powers Agency, completing changes that began when Powers & Associates acquired Sive/Young & Rubicam in January 2000, the agency said.

The acquisition by the Cincinnati shop created an agency with about 50 employees and $50 million in total billings.

The company at the time kept the Sive name because of the agency’s history in Cincinnati. “But now that the merger is complete, we thought it was time to come under one name with a single-minded focus to build business for our clients,” said Charlie Powers, the agency’s president.

The shop has retained all of its clients throughout the acquisition, Powers said. “Typically, you lose a client or two during these deals,” he said. “So I’m knocking on wood every day.” Those clients include Beech Acres, Cincinnati Museum Center, Frisch’s Restaurant and Kentucky Speedway.

The agency has also picked up two new clients: GTE Wireless, part of the Verizon wireless network for the Cincinnati area, and Pizza Nuova, a speciality gourmet pizza restaurant.

For GTE, the agency will handle promotional and public relations duties and will work creative for Pizza Nuova as the restaurant launches a campaign to open more locations.

Sive & Associates was founded in 1938 by Leonard M. Sive. Young & Rubicam purchased the shop in 1977, creating Sive/Y&R.
