Power Firms Cut To 4

ATLANTA-Southern Co. and its Georgia Power subsidiary have confirmed four finalists in the review for their combined advertising account.

Contenders are: J. Walter Thompson, WestWayne, 360, Fitzgerald & Co., all in Atlanta, according to Lee Birdsong, adv ertising and marketing communications manager for Southern Co. and Georgia Power, who is conducting the review.

Billings are estimated at $10-12 million.

A dozen Atlanta agencies were asked to submit proposals.

“We had a lot of strong performers,” Birdsong said.

The Atlanta-based clients plan to assign each finalist a small project. A decision is expected in late March.

The review was motivated by the demise of incumbent Pollak Levitt & Partners in Atlanta last November and its subsequent takeover by Trone Advertising of Greensboro, N.C.
