CHICAGO Petsmart has awarded creative duties on its ad account to Leo Burnett following a review, the agency confirmed on Friday.

The client spent about $40 million on ads last year, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus.

The Publicis Groupe-owned, Chicago-based Burnett bested WPP’s J. Walter Thompson in Chicago, Omnicom’s DDB in San Francisco and Publicis in Dallas for the business.

The competition was managed by consultancy Select Resources International in Santa Monica, Calif.

The Phoenix-based pet supply retailer has been handling creative in-house since splitting with independent shop Doner in Southfield, Mich.,
