Between the on-field drama at California’s SoFi Stadium, ads from PepsiCo and its subsidiary Frito-Lay will dominate the screen for much of Super Bowl 2022.

To ramp up to the Big Game, the two brands have launched a campaign focusing on the NFL playoffs.

The two-minute spot stars past NFL greats including brothers Eli and Peyton Manning, as well as Jerome Bettis, Victor Cruz and Terry Bradshaw. The ad will air on television from Super Wild Card Weekend through Championship Sunday, and will also run digitally.

“PepsiCo is synonymous with the game day viewing experience, and no other company can bring together snacks and beverages for the complete NFL package,” said Greg Lyons, svp and chief marketing officer of PepsiCo Beverages North America, in a statement. “We know that 90% of households will be enjoying snacks and beverages together on Super Bowl Sunday, but this year, we’re starting the journey to L.A. a little early with some of our favorite brands.”

In the ad, the Manning brothers are watching a football game when Bettis and Cruz arrive looking to take a road trip to the Super Bowl. Eli joins the bus ride that features a sing-along of Olivia Rodrigo’s “Good 4 U” and Bradshaw strapped to a seat at the top of the bus. Throughout the ad, several PepsiCo and Frito-Lay brands are highlighted.

The Manning brothers were a part of a Frito-Lay portfolio spot during last year’s Super Bowl that also starred Marshawn Lynch, Jerry Rice, Joe Montana and their father, Archie Manning.

“We wanted to start the playoff season in a joyful, celebratory way, so we’re featuring legendary players and iconic brands all in one fun-filled campaign,” said Rachel Ferdinando, svp and chief marketing officer of Frito-Lay North America.

PepsiCo and Frito-Lay will be very present at the Super Bowl. Pepsi is the featured sponsor for the halftime show, with performances from Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar.

Frito-Lay’s Flamin’ Hot Doritos and Cheetos will be at the center of a Super Bowl ad involving a major celebrity. Lay’s Potato Chips is also returning to the Big Game with an ad for the first time in 17 years.

Both brands say there will be NFL-themed packaging and displays of Frito-Lay and PepsiCo products at retailers now through mid-February, plus a contest for fans to win NFL gear.

Super Bowl 56 will take place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, home to the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers. The championship game will air on NBC and NBCUniversal’s streaming service Peacock on Feb. 13.
