ATLANTA Pants!, the rock band from McKinney + Silver in Durham, N.C., won the fifth annual Fortune Battle of the Corporate Bands at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland last weekend.

Pants! beat seven other bands to take the top honor. The Loaners from Quicken Loans placed second and Spurious Freedom from Texas Instruments took third. Forty bands entered the competition.

Judges for the competition included Jeff Carlisi, a guitarist for .38 Special; Liberty DeVitto, drummer for Billy Joel; G.E. Smith, musical director of Saturday Night Live; and Southside Johnny, founder of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes.

McKinney’s musicians also have won the Fluid Battle of the Ad Bands for the past two years at Advertising Week in New York.

The agency’s band members are David Baldwin, executive creative director; Wes Whitener, art director; Mitch Bennett, copywriter; Jerry Bodrie, management supervisor; and Andrew Delbridge, director of strategy. Whitener also won an individual award as the best bass player at the competition.

The Fortune Battle of the Corporate Bands celebrates musicians who have day jobs ranging from CEO to truck driver. The competition has raised a total of more than $500,000 during the past five years for educational programs at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.
