Overture Maps Out Global Expansion

NEW YORK Overture Services outlined on Monday its plan to expand into at least seven new markets in Europe and Asia this year.

The provider of pay-for-performance search to Web sites said it looks to enter the Italian market later in the second quarter, followed by Austria, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and Scandinavia before the end of the year. In preparation for its Q2 launch in Italy, the company said it has opened an office in Milan and has appointed Gianluca Carrera, co-founder of pan-European search provider Godado.com, as managing director of Overture Italy.

The company also plans a South Korean launch for the first half. In anticipation of that market entry, Overture has already inked a commercial search distribution deal with Microsoft’s MSN Korea [IQ Daily Briefing, April 3, 2003].

As a part of its global growth strategy, Overture has opened a new search services and operations center at its European headquarters in Dublin, Ireland, which also houses its European finance, accounting and technology teams. The search services center will service Overture’s existing subsidiaries in the U.K., Germany and France.

To localize client services, Overture intends to employ a workforce that includes 100 editorial, customer service, accounting and technology employees by the end of the year. The company’s Pasadena, Calif., global headquarters previously provided Overture’s European customer services and editorial capabilities.
