Overall Named Boathouse CD

James Overall has been named partner/creative director of Boathouse, the shop launched in the spring by John Connors III.

For the past four years, Overall had been a creative director at Messner Vetere Berger McNamee Schmetterer Euro RSCG in New York, working on Volvo and New Balance. Prior to Messner, Overall worked at Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos on the AMD and John Hancock Financial Services accounts. Overall had gotten to know Connors, son of Hill, Holiday CEO/chairman Jack Connors, during his stint at the Boston shop and the two had kept in touch.

Boathouse employs seven people and is positioned as a hybrid ad agency/marketing consulting shop. “We’re looking to be an agency that acts like a consultancy,” providing high-level marketing strategy and creative executions while keeping a low profile and, when possible, not disclosing the names of clients, Connors said. Also following the consulting company model, Connors said Boathouse intends to work with clients that already have agency relationships.

Connors III formed Boathouse in Dedham, Mass., after a year-long stint as CEO of Interpublic Group of Cos.’s i-shop Zentropy Partners. Boathouse is not affiliated with Hill, Holliday or its parent, IPG.
