O’Neil Griffin Bodi Bets on Fun

Comedian Thom Sharp banters with flying pigs, hippies and cowboys in O’Neil Griffin Bodi’s latest campaign for the New Hampshire Lottery.

The work introduces the tagline “Wanna have some fun?” and targets men and women age 30 and over.

“We’re continuing [themes of] the campaign we started a year ago that shows the humorous side of the lottery,” said Rick Wisler, executive director of the New Hampshire Sweepstakes Commission, Concord, N.H. “We used Thom Sharp last year, and we brought him back because we got such a positive response.”

The spots each feature a different ticket paired with the unifying voice of Sharp, in order to appeal to many players, according to Pat Griffin, evp/partner at O’Neil Griffin, Manchester, N.H., which has worked with the lottery since 1985.

One TV execution urges people to go into convenience stores to purchase scratch tickets. In the spot, Sharp sneaks up on a man pumping gas outside a store. “Well, you should really go inside,” the comic says. “They have a lot of fun stuff in there, like shrink-wrap room-temperature beef. Not to mention the fun and excitement of the Lot tery’s new $2 in stant scratch game, Funny Money.”

In another ad, Sharp chats with “longtime earth child and confirmed minimalist Cosmic Sunshine” about the Cool Hand Loot game.

The campaign includes more than a dozen 30-second spots as well as a radio component, which also features Sharp. The ads began breaking last week and will continue to air throughout 2002.
