NEW YORK Omnicom’s OMD has hired Mainardo de Nardis as worldwide CEO, a post that has been vacant since early 2007. He reports to Daryl Simm, CEO of Omnicom Media Group.

De Nardis is relocating to New York to take on the new role. Most recently, he was CEO of Aegis Media, a post he assumed in 2006 and left in the spring.

Prior to Aegis, de Nardis had been global CEO at WPP Group’s Mediaedge:cia. He had helmed MEC with chairman Charles Courtier since the agencies merged following WPP’s acquisition of CIA parent Tempus in 2002.

At OMD, he replaces Joe Uva, who departed 18 months ago to run Univision, the Los Angeles-based Spanish-language TV network.
