Olson Names President

CHICAGO Independent agency Olson has promoted three-year managing director Kevin DiLorenzo to president, according to the shop.

In his new post, DiLorenzo will oversee the agency’s account services, brand design, interactive, media and planning departments. He will also spend more time working with clients across all those disciplines to determine how the agency can better serve them and build “brand communities,” the agency said.

“My primary role is really the development and deepening of client relationships,” DiLorenzo said. “I see this community building as being key to our future. That’s the focus of my efforts of what this place is all about.”

DiLorenzo, 41, takes the title from agency founder John Olson, who will remain CEO of the Minneapolis shop.

“When I hired Kevin, I specifically wanted someone of his caliber and unique background because it reinforces our different approach to marketing,” Olson said in a statement. “Kevin has an amazing ability to rally the different marketing disciplines in the agency around a single idea, bringing to life our holistic, community-building approach.”

A former television newscaster, DiLorenzo joined Olson as managing director in 2003 from Carmichael Lynch Spong, the public relations arm of Interpublic Group’s Carmichael Lynch, where he was a senior partner. Prior to that, he was a founding member of the integrated marketing division at Publicis Groupe’s Fallon.

Over the three years Olson has been with the agency, it has grown from 40 to 100 employees and added clients such as Formica, Nike Bauer Hockey and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
