Olson Goes to Bat for Nats

CHICAGO The Washington Nationals have selected independent agency Olson to handle its advertising account, according to the shop.

“This is a home run for our agency,” said Kevin DiLorenzo, managing director of the Minneapolis shop, in a statement. “We have now worked with teams in every major sport, and it’s exciting to work with the first baseball team in Washington, D.C., in more than 30 years.”

Olson is already at work on the Major League Baseball team’s 2006 advertising campaign, which will include print, television, radio and nontraditional ads.

The shop also works for the Detroit Pistons of the National Basketball Association and the Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League. It also produced produced campaigns for the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers and the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League.

Billings were not disclosed. The Washington Nats spent less than $1 million on advertising last year, its inaugural season in D.C., according to Nielsen Monitor-Plus.
