O’Leary Names Co-Creative Leaders

LOS ANGELES Independent O’Leary & Partners said it has appointed Eric Spiegler and Deidre McQuaide co-executive creative directors.

The new creative leadership at the Newport Beach, Calif., agency took effect this week, said O’Leary president Jim Harrington. Spiegler and McQuaide replace former executive creative director Scott Montgomery, who left the shop last month “to consider various opportunities,” Harrington said.

Spiegler joined O’Leary from WPP Group’s Young & Rubicam, Irvine, Calif., where he had been associate creative director on accounts including Land Rover and Jaguar. Prior to that, Spiegler was vp, acd at Interpublic Group’s Foote Cone & Belding, also in Irvine. McQuaide, who came to O’Leary in January from FCB Irvine, was promoted from vp, acd.

Spiegler and McQuaide were “the first creative team I worked with when I moved to California,” said Harrington, who met them during their eight-year partnership at FCB. Harrington said he looked forward to re-creating their “tremendous successes” at O’Leary.

In addition, Harrington said senior copywriter Rob Pettis had been promoted to vp, acd. In his new role, Pettis will lead creative development on accounts including Kawasaki and In-N-Out Burger.

O’Leary’s creative department changes follow a summer of new business wins. New clients include Bimbo Bakeries USA, WD-40 Company and Smarthome. In September, the shop launched its first branch, in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Other clients on O’Leary’s roster include Fantastic Sams, Commercial Capital Bank and the California Association of Realtors.
