Gordon Jump, who has played Maytag repairman “Ol’ Lonely” for 14 years, is retiring from the role. Character actor Hardy Rawls will replace Jump, 71, in a 2004 campaign by Maytag’s longtime agency, Leo Burnett in Chicago. Rawls will be the third man to play the repairman, who is lonely because Maytag customers rarely call for help.
