Ogilvy Exec Jumps to Coke

NEW YORK The Coca-Cola Co. has hired Robin Bardolia from WPP Group’s Ogilvy & Mather as vp of global creative strategy, effective sometime in February, a Coke representative confirmed.

Bardolia, 38, is currently running a recently formed planning unit called Ogilvy Planning Syndicate at the agency’s New York headquarters [Adweek, Nov. 30].

Before joining Ogilvy in 2002, Bardolia ran the planning department at the New York office of Publicis Groupe’s Fallon. At Ogilvy, he has worked on accounts such as Ponds, Motorola and Unilever.

In the newly created position at Coke in Atlanta, Bardolia will report to vp, global chief creative officer Esther Lee and will work across all of Coke’s brands.

Ogilvy handles Sprite and Fanta for the beverage giant, while its sibling agency, Berlin Cameron/Red Cell in New York, is responsible for Coke Classic and C2. Berlin Cameron was recently awarded creative duties on the new Coke with Lime line extension. Interpublic Group’s Foote Cone & Belding in New York has Diet Coke and independent Wieden + Kennedy in Portland, Ore., advertises Powerade.

W+K’s office in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, this month was awarded an overseas advertising assignment for Coke Classic as it relates to soccer sponsorships, according to Coke worldwide CMO Chuck Fruit.

Additionally, the Coke rep confirmed that Fruit has retained Peter Sealey, a former Coke marketing executive, as a consultant. Sealey is currently co-director of the Center for Marketing and Technology at the University of California at Berkeley.
