NourzAds Races to Mow Down Cancer

DALLAS An ad shop headed by a breast-cancer survivor is making its own grass-roots effort to combat the disease at Sunday’s Komen Race for the Cure in Austin, Texas.

Austin-based NourzAds Advertising will introduce its Precision Lawn-Mower Drill Team at the 5K walk and run event under the banner “Cut Out Cancer,” the agency said.

Performing choreographed routines with pink lawn mowers that were headed for the junk pile, the team hopes to entertain while raising awareness about the disease, said Mary Pat “M.P.” Nourzad, who battled early-stage breast cancer.

“Humor with a little edge to it is not only a great way to deal with adversity but also very effective in driving home a strong, memorable message to whatever your target audience is,” said Nourzad. “We want the ‘Cut Out Cancer’ drill team to be amusing and entertaining so people will pay attention to the very important message of the Komen Race—that together we can raise funds for research to find a cure for breast cancer and also that regular screening for early detection saves lives.”

NourzAds’ staffer Carol Cain wrote original lyrics for the “Cut Out Cancer” theme song, performed to the tune of Kool and the Gang’s “Celebration,” the agency said. The Production Block donated studio time and services for the NourzAds team to record the song.

The Susan G. Komen Foundation sponsors the race.
