New GM global chief for McCann

DETROIT IPG’s McCann-Erickson has named Detroit managing director Garry Neel to a new position, General Motors worldwide account director. Neel will work closely with John Dooner, chairman and CEO of McCann-Erickson WorldGroup, as well as with GM teams in the 45 countries that McCann has the automaker’s business. Neal will continue to oversee the Detroit office. A McCann rep declined to disclose the agency’s worldwide GM billings.

WPP stands firm on Cordiant Bid

NEW YORK WPP Group released a statement last week reiterating its unwillingness to sweeten investor terms as set out in its bid for Cordiant Communications Group. Meanwhile, shareholder Active Value continued to increase its stake in CCG; it now holds more than 27 percent of the holding company. The London investment fund, which disapproves of WPP’s terms, needs only a 25 percent share to vote down the acquisition.

veritas’ media review down to 3

SAN FRANCISCO Veritas Software has chosen three finalists in the review for its $20 million media account: IPG’s Universal McCann, Grey Global Group’s MediaCom and Aegis Group’s Carat, all in San Francisco, according to consultant Select Resources International. Neither the client nor the agencies could be reached. It was unclear whether the incumbent, Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos, San Francisco, defended.
