Newspapers Steady, but Not Spectacular

NEW YORK – The market right now is ‘pretty good, but it’s not great,’ said Steve Hills, The Washington Post’s director of advertising and marketing. Retail is doing well, but national has slowed while clients wait for decisions to be made about the economy in Washington. A just-released Berents Newspaper Survey from Wheat First Securities predicts retail lineage industry wide will increase in 1993 by 1.6 percent, classified will rise by 2.6 percent and national will fall 0.8 percent.
