Seven Squaring Off for Promus
DALLAS–Memphis, Tenn.-based Promus Hotel Corp. will hear in July from seven shops vying for a possible consolidation of its $40 million account. In contention, sources said, are incumbents GSD&M, Austin, Texas, and DDB Needham, Dallas; Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos and Arnold Communications, both Boston; TBWA Chiat/Day and Deutsch, both New York; and Foote, Cone & Belding, Chicago. Promus officials and agency executives declined to comment. Sources said each shop has been given a branding project. Ammirati Puris Lintas, New York, and other undisclosed agencies were considered but did not receive the assignment, sources said.

Budget Expands Review
CHICAGO–Budget Rent a Car in Lisle, Ill., plans to begin a review for a consolidated $25 million Budget and Ryder TRS Yellow Pages account, a representative said. Budget incumbent Ketchum Directory Advertising, Chicago, and Ryder’s agency, TMP Worldwide in Miami, will be invited. Separately, Budget had selected four Chicago shops as finalists for its $35 million ad account: Cramer-Krasselt, Grant/Jacoby, Euro RSCG Tatham and Publicis-Hal Riney & Partners. Incumbent Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos in Boston was not invited to participate. Euro RSCG Tatham later withdrew.

Sony Planning Major Reorganization
NEW YORK–Sony Electronics in Park Ridge, N.J., has planned a meeting Tuesday to discuss reorganization, sources said. The meeting will be attended by Sony president Nobuyuki Idei and Sony Corp. of America head Howard Stringer. Sources said reorganization could lead to an influx of Japanese managers at Sony Electronics in the U.S. It was undisclosed whether the move would postpone the review begun by the client to replace Lowe & Partners/SMS here on its $35 million ad account. The client did not return calls at press time.

Temerlin, Rapp Collins Get GTE Work
DALLAS–GTE Network Services in Irving, Texas, has awarded its estimated $25-30 million direct marketing account to Temerlin McClain and has hired Rapp Collins Worldwide to oversee its new Customer Link loyalty program, the client confirmed last week. Both shops are in Irving. Ogilvy & Mather, New York, lead agency for GTE Corp., had been handling the direct duties at its Los Angeles and Dallas offices on an interim basis. The Network Services unit oversees GTE’s local phone service in 28 states.

DGWB Lands Nature’s Recipe
LOS ANGELES–DGWB, Irvine, Calif., has picked up an estimated $5-6 million in ad duties for Nature’s Recipe Pet Foods. The shop was selected by the Corona, Calif.-based pet food maker after a review of undisclosed California, Texas and Kansas agencies, the client said. The incumbent was Goldberg Moser O’Neill in San Francisco.
