New GM at Creative Media

Shop’s Growth, PhD Spark Marks’ Promotion
LOS ANGELES–Mickey Marks has been named executive vice president, general manager of Creative Media, overseeing the media shop’s day-to-day operations in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Marks, 38, ran Creative Media’s New York office before moving into this new position.
The move is a response to the estimated $1 billion shop’s rapid growth and the need to free its partners, Robert Hanley and Richard Glosman, to help develop Omnicom Media Group’s second global media network, PhD, in the U.S. Last month, Creative Media and Omnicom media specialist Advanswers, St. Louis, united with HYPN in Canada and New PHD in England to form PhD [Adweek, Feb. 28].
“We needed someone to run our day-to-day business because we can’t do both [manage Creative Media and build PhD],” said Glosman. “It can’t just be the Bob and Rick show.”
Marks held management posts at Dancer Fitzgerald Sample and Jordan McGrath Case & Taylor before joining Creative Media in 1993.
Creative Media partnered last summer with another Omnicom shop, Direct Partners, Santa Monica, Calif. To service that business more closely than it could from San Francisco, Creative Media opened a Los Angeles office, hiring former Western Initiative Media executive Andrew Chase to lead it. Through Direct, Creative Media now handles media buying for such clients as EarthLink and E*Trade; roster clients include Old Navy and Banana Republic.
