Ailing telecom giant Nortel Networks has named company veteran Alan Kember as CMO, a post left open by Anil Khatod, who had been both CMO and chief strategy officer. Khatad left earlier this month.

Kember?s previous title was president, enterprise industry solutions. He will be based in Nortel?s Santa Clara, Calif., office, a rep said.

Temerlin McClain, Dallas, handles Nortel?s account. The agency in April cut about 6% of its staff in anticipation of slowed spending for Nortel.
