Netratings to Produce Holiday Spending Report with Goldman, Harris

Nielsen NetRatings, a Milpitas, Calif.-based Internet audience measurement and analysis firm, has announced a partnership with Goldman Sachs and Harris Interactive to deliver its 2001 Holiday E-Spending Report.

The report will track weekly shopping and buying attitudes of consumers on the Web. In an early study, data revealed that 63 percent of shoppers surveyed in the past week relied on brand awareness as the leading factor in making online purchases. In addition, initial findings from the survey showed that 69 percent of Internet users have not yet begun shopping for the holidays, indicating that the official start of the e-commerce holiday season has yet to begin.

The E-Spending Report is based on a weekly national survey of 500 online shoppers, chosen at random from Harris Interactive’s multimillion-member panel of Internet users. The survey tracks online shopping activity and spending by market segment, as well as consumer attitudes and motivations that drive online spending.
