NEW YORK — NetRatings and Jupiter Media Metrix jointly announced Tuesday that they have settled their patent infringement dispute.

As part of the agreement, Jupiter Media Metrix has dropped its litigation, and NetRatings has acquired the company’s computer-use tracking patents for $15 million. Jupiter retains a license to use the technology in its Internet audience measurement business.

Separately, NetRatings has purchased Media Metrix’s European Internet audience measurement contracts for $2 million in cash.

The two research companies had agreed to merge late last year, but that deal fell apart amid concerns of regulatory scrutiny.
