NBC.com Benefits From ‘Apprentice’ Flurry

NEW YORK NBC’s Web site traffic rose significantly last week as people fed their appetite for The Apprentice.

About 868,000 unique visitors logged on to NBC.com from home, up 53 percent over the week before, while 863,000 did so from work, a 44 percent week-over-week growth, according to Nielsen/NetRatings. Findings revealed that fans were accessing episode recaps and a sweepstakes related to the reality TV series that made famous the line, “You’re fired.”

On last night’s finale of the NBC hit, Internet entrepreneur Bill Rancic was chosen to run one of Donald Trump’s businesses over Harvard MBA Kwame Jackson. Last week, the show attracted 22 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research.

“Creating an online component for popular television shows has become standard practice, but the online success of NBC’s Apprentice is a clear reflection of the popularity of the show and how highly engaged its watchers were,” said Ken Cassar, director of strategic analysis at Nielsen/NetRatings, a part of Adweek parent VNU.
